Last summer, bars, and restaurants were permitted to reopen in New York, yet with limitations. One of these rules said that establishments may not serve liquor unless it was being sold with food. Now, as summer is about to start, New York has lifted that limitation, and bars and restaurants can offer booze all on their own.
State legislators passed resolutions on Wednesday permitting for the limitation to be lifted, the Associated Press reports. The rule had reportedly been unpopular among restaurant owners.
The State Liquor Authority, however, updated its rules at the time to say that customers had to arrange a substantial food item in order to be permitted to serve liquor. For individuals looking for a drink in New York, there’s more great news.
Beginning on May 3, individuals will reportedly be permitted to sit at the bar in businesses located in New York City. Outdoor dining areas will be permitted to function past midnight beginning on May 17, whereas indoor dining areas will be permitted to remain open past midnight beginning on May 31.
