Olympic chief will visit Japan to inspect Covid safety for the upcoming Tokyo 2021

Thomas Bach anticipated to provide Japan the all-clear to host the Games, as PM secures additional immunization dosages from Pfizer to battle new virus wave. The head of the Olympic movement will visit Japan in May as the country battles to contain a surge in Covid-19 cases before the beginning of the Games, with Pfizer agreeing to supply additional vaccine doses to the nation.

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, will attend a torch relay ceremony within the western city of Hiroshima on 17 May. He will also meet prime minister Yoshihide Suga the following day.

Bach is anticipated to back Japan’s commitment to safely have the summer Games. Which are due to begin in late July after being put off from last year since of the pandemic.

With less than 100 days until the Olympics are due to begin in Tokyo, Japan extended quasi-emergency measures to 10 regions on Friday as a fourth wave of Covid-19 cases spread. Taro Kono has said the pace of the immunization shipments is anticipated to pick up starting in May.
