President Biden on Thursday marked an official order announcing a "national emergency" over the danger from Russia, as his administration slapped new sanctions on the country. The U.S. Department of State said it is removing 10 officials from Russia’s respective mission.
The White House too discharged a letter to Congress expressing that the president has issued "an Executive Order announcing a national emergency with regard to the unusual and exceptional threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States posed by indicated harmful foreign exercises of the Government of the Russian Federation."
Russian foreign ministry representative Maria Zakharova in the meantime said at a news conference that Russia has summoned the U.S. ambassador for a "difficult conversation." In any case, didn't promptly detail particular retaliatory activities from Russia.
The intense stance from the Biden administration comes as pressures have raised between the U.S. and Russia amid the president's first three months. Biden called Putin an executioner in his first sit-down interview after taking office.
